Launching Tech for Abundance in NYC
Yoni Rechtman
Context: Last Wednesday, I teamed up with Abundance NY, Lux Capital, and Company Ventures to host our first Tech For Abundance event. While it was a relatively small gathering, over 700 people signed up, which was incredible and really shows the strong enthusiasm for productive political engagement right now.
Market Signal: New York City is in a state of flux—both politically and technologically. Traditional models of liberal governance are being challenged by proponents of abundance as AI disrupts industries. The city has so much potential to be a great place to build businesses and use our entrepreneurial spirit to make government work better. The turnout and diversity at the event—from DSA members to folks from the Manhattan Institute—highlight a real appetite for cross-spectrum collaboration.
Takeaways:
NYC faces big challenges—cost of living, quality of life, housing, transit, safety—that make it tough to build and thrive here and to attract talent. But there’s a huge groundswell of energy and latent potential among entrepreneurs and operators to be part of the solution. The panelists we brought together, working on modular housing, government process automation, and climate initiatives, showed how tech can be harnessed for impact. It’s inspiring to see people come together despite political differences, proving coalition-building is not only possible but essential.
We also launched the Abundance Tech Whatsapp group to create a space for abundance-minded builders across the NYC tech scene to connect and collaborate. I’m excited to see this community grow.
Ask: If you’re an entrepreneur or operator in NYC passionate about leveraging technology to improve the city and want to join a network of like-minded builders, I’d love for you to join the Abundance Tech Whatsapp group. The fight to improve NYC is happening now—and I truly believe we’re winning.
